Much like how every shoe we try on might not be the perfect fit, every look we wear may not be a complete success. Have you ever fully imagined the perfect combination- down to the accessories, tried it on and it just fell completely flat? Have you ever been in a rush and threw on some pieces that usually look fine individually but they ended up looking awful together AND you had no time to correct the style infraction? Or even worse, have you ever executed the perfect ensemble, felt like the freshest thing walking, then randomly decided that you weren’t feeling it anymore? All these situations are proof that our personal styles are ever-evolving.
The key to success and a healthy awareness of your preferences is trial and error. Testing new combinations of your clothing, shoes and accessories is the only way to fully grasp what works and what doesn’t work for you. Limiting yourself to a uniform formula for your looks is an easy way to steer yourself into a rut if you’re not careful. Sometimes an unorthodox new combination can be the key to unlocking the door that leads you into a new sartorial dimension.
On the flip side, that eccentric pairing may just be a flop that makes you feel a little silly or uncomfortable for a few hours. Whichever outcome is ultimately still a win, though! Why? Because your horizons have broadened, and you have a clearer picture of who you really are. Every time you take a new creative risk, you’re flexing the muscles that help you to build more individuality. There is only one you and I encourage you to move, speak and dress to affirm that fact.
Style, much like life itself, is enriched by trial and error. In the case of your personal style, the errors are subjective. It’s not life or death, but it can be slightly life altering. Ultimately, your choices can be labeled as 1 of 2 categories: Does this look make me feel good, or does it not? Every look can’t be Vogue cover worthy, but you can’t achieve that caliber of look without a little experimentation. You win some, you lose some but regardless, you live to dress another day.
Some looks fail, but don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new- even if it’s only within the comfort of your own home. You may end up with a new signature style statement, but you’ll never win if you don’t play! If you need a coach, I’m here to get you in the game.
